Sandee Daye, CMKBD, received a 2nd place award in the 1998 NKBA Design Competion, presented by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). This nationally acclaimed competition recognizes the exceptional ability of certified kitchen designers to design award-winning kitchens, bathrooms and other spaces.
A panel of 12 distinguished judges for the kitchen and bath industry chose Sandee's design from the hundreds that were entered from all over the United States and Canada. Each entry score was based on functional use of space, innovative design solutions, professional presentation and overall aesthetic statement. The judges were as impressed as our clients by Sandee's creative use of space in the kitchen design she submitted.
Sandee won the award because her unique style ideas turned complicated factors into one of the best in the nation. Her design of two islands and staggered counter heights and depths helped break up this large, windowless kitchen. She lined the perimeter of the room with custom ivory painted and distressed cabinets with a large crown molding. Distressed cherry wood along the decorative legs, corbels and wainscotting give the islands a fine furniture look. The first island doubles as an extra surface for the primary cook and work station for the second cook. The second sink creates a separate work triangle and vegetable prep area with a view of the family room. Island number two works as a baking area on one side and a snack bar on the other. The large peninsula cabinet with glass doors allows light to filter in as well.
